The Pacification of Galicia in 1930: A New Interpretation from the Sources (Dec 20th – Zoom)
This event will be devoted to the discussion of the
“Pacification,” a campaign of repression conducted by the Polish authorities against the Ukrainian population of Galicia in 1930
based on the recently published Ukrainian-language book
The Pacification of Galicia in 1930: Documents.
The book was edited by Roman Wysocki and published in the series Ukraine. Europe: 1921–1939 with the support of the Peter Jacyk Program for the Study of Modern Ukrainian History and Society at the CIUS. Based on the documents he has assembled, Roman Wysocki has proposed a new approach towards the subject. He maintains there was no planned OUN “sabotage action.” On the contrary, the “Pacification” was an action planned by the Polish government in order to gather more support before parliamentary elections that were held in October 1930.
